WTF?
Why the hell was this post locked?
Perhaps a glitch, but here it is again, and I am really curious what all y'all have to say about this topic:
==============
Okay my vote goes to these two:
--Analog Man BiComprossor-- A boutique clone of a Dan Armstrong
Orange Squeezer feeding a Ross Compressor (the purple one made famous
by Trey Anastasio from Phish. This is the shit!!! You can choose
either or both in series, which is a killer tone to my personal ears.
Great build quality, good value, and sturdy as hell. Boffo!!
--Demeter Compulator-- a fantastic single stage emulation of the
1176. Not too drastic, but very versatile and forgiving. Especially
effective on acoustic pickups!! Also great on Rickenbackers! Good
LED. Quiet and extremely well built. Only bummer is the mini-plug
power adapter connector. WHY?
I have the following:
MXR DynaComp--two originals that sounded completely different, and one reissue that stunk in comparison
Rockman Compressor/Line Driver-- half-rack unit that is perfect for
the classic Def Leppard clean tone. AC power is a plus. Good EQ
options. Interfaces with distortions very well. Lots of connection
options. And damn quiet.
Ross Compressor-- holding on to this Purple baby for vintage value.
But I must admit the AnalogMan clone does the same thing, only better.
Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer-- I have three units of this, and they
all are of different vintage, and sound much different. You want
"Sultans of Swing?" Plug a Strat set on the treble/middle notch pickup
position (second from treble on a fiveway switch) thru this into a
Fender Deluxe amp and crank it up to about 8.
Toadworks Mr. Squeazy-- very versatile, and also very quiet. A good
choice for all around use, but somehow it was not magic for me.
DOD vintage late 70's compressor-- a non-magical DynaComp that actually seemed to work very well on bass. Go figure.
So what are your opinions?
