So I'm going to be THAT guy. This maybe a tad early but I'll gamble that I won't see much in the next couple of weeks that would make the list.

 In no particular order:

Modest Mouse - "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank"

Oceansize - "Frames"

Brother Ali - "The Undisputed Truth"

Clutch - "Beale St. To Oblivion"

Kanye West - "Graduation"

Self-Evident - S/T

Here's a few that definitely make my list:

Oceansize - Frames

Radiohead - In Rainbows

PJ Harvey - White Chalk

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Ween - La Cucaracha

The Bad Plus - Prog

 The National - "Boxer"

 Grinderman - S/T

Okkervil River - "The Stage Names"

 Dinosaur Jr. - "Beyond"

LCD Soundsystem - "Sound of Silver"

.... and the "late" 2006 carryover that remains in heavy rotation in my Car CD player...

The Hold Steady - "Boys and Girls in America"

One of my musical regrets in life. My god I've tried with Lifter Puller and the Hold Steady but I just can't get into Finn's voice. The music from both bands is good though.

I can tell you that you should buy it.

It's no "Stories of the City...", neither is it "Is this Desire"... but it's a heck of a lot better than "Uh Huh Her", "Dry", and "4-track Demos".  I'd go so far to say that it's her 3rd-best album.  Very dark... very good.

There's a pretty decent review here

What the fuck is wrong with Dry or 4-Track? As much as I love "Stories," those two are the quintessential PJ albums for me. What a set of balls that lady has (in a good way).

All I hear when I listen to 4-track are awful guitars.

These are just my ears, mind you... but yeah.

And there's nothing "wrong" with Dry by any means.  I dig the album... I'm just more partial to Stories & Desire, that's all.

Gotcha. For my money, "Is This Desire" is far and away her worst record. Couple good tunes, but some real shit. I'm also not a big fan of her record with John Parrish. I just really like the raw stuff, and take 4-track at face value, warts and all.

Meanwhile, back in 2007... I'm stumped. Did "Wolves" come out this year?

Wow.

Just...

Wow.

I don't even know where to begin.  That's... unbelievable.  To me... that's like saying OK Computer was far and away Radiohead's worst album.

Let's qualify this a little bit then... does an album have to have an out-of-tune Squire played through what sounds to be a Crate practice amp recorded with a plastic Fisher Price "My First Microphone" into a Tascam 4-track which is taping over a cassette that once held a high-speed-dubbed version of Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" in order to sound "raw" and/or "good" to you?

That's some absolute crazy talk, man.

Nah J-Unit, twas '06. I checked. That one for me isn't annual. It's all time! BTW, Mr.Fancy Ray. Did you get your hands on a pre-release copy of the new ROS? If so, what's your take?

Tuffy - Ascetic said on Myspace that 1985 is all released and available from them NOW, so I guess it's official.

Folksy - when I say "raw," I'm talking more about the writing style and song structure. I like the songs on 4-Track tons. The lo-fi elements of that record work well with the songs for me. Also, she sings like her boyfriend and her dad both walked out on her right before she pushed "record." That's a plus for me. I don't like the songs on TBYML very much (and I'm listening to it as I type to reconfirm), and I don't like the "electronica" elements she brought in. It's almost like she wanted to be Tori Amos or Kate Bush or something, and I don't dig it.

I don't own a copy yet, but we got to hear it bunch on tour, both through Rob and with the other ROS dudes.

It's along the lines of "got this feelin'", but maybe even more varied and slightly more rockish overall?  I think they tried a lot of new things in the studio they've never done before, too....they got a really fresh sound with Paul Malinowski who did a great job.

You'll just have to check it out, it's hard to describe.  It's nice to hear them take chances.

I thought we were talking about "Is This Desire"...

We're in complete agreement on To Bring You My Love, though.

As for the electronica-like elements on Desire... I guess I really don't hear it... except for maybe on "Electric Light".

Anyway... we're digressing from the conversation in a big way.

Well I tried to get 1985 off the Asechsdhkthtic (or however the eff you say it or spell it) website and was denied purchase. I wonder what's up, if it's available via download on there now and then the actual CD date in 3/11 or what? I know they had the release party for it. I = confused.
