Today's example:

Me: "Holy shit dude, Panasonic's coming out with a 103 inch HD plasma! Diagonally, that's the size of Shaq!!!"
Him: "Shaq, haha. All I know is that Cuba Gooding Jr. was drunk on Howard (Stern) this morning."

Alllllllllllrighty then. I know when I think of the biggest HDTV out there, this morning's guest on Howard Stern's satellite radio show comes to mind. *scratches head*

Fuck, this guy is awesome.

Please keep us in the loop with his new material.

I miss having crazy people at work.

Scat by numbers.

I emailed his wife today and asked her if he does this shit to her too, and she just went off. So we're having a good laugh by bitching about this trait to each other.

The wife's response to my query:

"YES! You mean where you tell a story or make a comment and he starts the
next topic without even acknowledging that you said anything?

I tell him it's because he's a selfish, narcissistic bastard that insists
the topic he wants to discuss is much more important than anything anybody
else has to say.

Seriously, I have told him that. lol"

I have a pal who for some strange reason, insists on taking the devil's advocate position with EVERYTHING I tell him about what's going on in my life. He offers to lend an ear, then tears me to shreds. Deep down, I understand he's trying to help me in a different way and I can appreciate that, but god damn, it gets annoying. I can do the devil's advocate thing real well too.... but I didn't sign up for a recurring role on a talk show, I just needed him to say "yeah man, that sucks." Yes, that would be plenty, so thank you for listening I guess.

Well maybe your looking for some quick words of agreement, but what about your pal's needs? Maybe he needs to feel like he's always helping someone and maybe the only way he can do that is by tearing you to shreds. Damn, your so selfish!

Yeah, you're right - I'm sorry. but I still blame HIM!

I blame HIM too.....terrible fuckin band.

I agree with Todd, I do the same, depending on the person.

person #1 Runs at the mouth about Tech stuff or anything, I take what they have said and change subject. GREAT SEGUE!!!  (for you sound people, you get it)

For instance: Friend, "Blah Blah Blah, way back when I was in said job or military"(this guy lives in the past) . Me..."By the way, hear about the military in Lebanon, "ect, or whatever. Anything to keep it current and stop the rambling.

person #2 On phone: "Blah blah blah, it is ALL about ME" I add to conversation, she interupts by cutting me off, yelling at her kids, ect. She is one of the rudest, self centered people I know. She runs at the mouth and repeats herself constantly. Never hears what others say. Others say this about her, and she know this, yet keeps doing it??  Who knows?  Her ex husband and her brother inlaw both call her a stupid bitch. I am beginning to see why the guy left. IRGGGGGGGGG! I have gotten to the point where I just cut her off also, or say I have to go!!! God she is annoying and self centered as hell.

Person #3 Will be yapping away about something.. Then gets distracted, this air head then,  20-30 minutes later out of nowhere will resume the same conversation about the same thing. By then, I am going........."whaa the fuuu__ are you talking about??" Well, I assume that after 20-30 min., MOST would have moved on to another conversation, or other things and forgotten what was discussed 20-30 minutes ago.  AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! This one has a need not to be ignored, I guess??

Next time my friend rambles, I think I will tell him to look at the waitresses ass, and I will make my escape. HA!

These are the ones that drive me to the keg.  The ones that are so consumed with themselves that they can't possibly consider talking about something that's unrelated to them in some way.  They'll come at you bragging about something they've achieved, purchased, etc. and just start blathering as though you're hanging on every word.  Then, if you interject something unrelated to derail them, they find a way to bring it back to themselves.  It's gotta be an art form because some people are really gifted at it.

Me:  So...yeah...uh...Danny just bought a really nice car.  Must have cost a truckload because it's loaded with extra features.

Dude:  Oh, that's nothing.  I had a car back in '02 that could have blown that thing away.....

Me: I went to Trader Joe's for the first time. What a weird place for a guy like me.

Subject Changer Guy: (mentions tofurkey, which is on-topic so far)

Me: (melts down over the concept of something as retarded as tofurkey - wonders aloud why even bother going to all the trouble to eat fake sausage.) "JUST SKIP THE SASSAGE ALTOGETHER IF YOU HAVE TO FAKE IT THAT MUCH!"

Subject Changer Guy: I bought a Bissell vacuum cleaner this weekend...blah blah blah works great on pet hair blah blah blah etc

I just sat down at this point. From organic food stores w/tofurkey to vacuum cleaners in the blink of an eye. Alllllllrighty then. That was a logical segueway...I...guess. No warning, either. Just all of a sudden time to talk vacuum cleaners.

I don't have any subject changer friends, but I have one that has to one up everything... If I tell him a did something, he did it better, if I got something, he got 2 of 'em, if I found a new cool band, he heard of 'em first and didn't like it. F*ck man!

Oh god, I totally know what you mean, Sanders. The one-upper is also the one that always insists on attempting to shift whatever conversation over to themselves. I've got a few friends that do this.

Have you ever felt like you were being One-Upper Guy, even though you were telling the truth? I HATE when that happens. I'm being serious too.

I have caught myself being "that guy", but never with the intention of being "that guy". Maybe with an old friend that I hadn't seen in a long time, or during the quick conversations we all have with 300 musicians when we're looking for a band/project. Although, I think it may be forgiven in those situations where you need to tell someone what the f you have done for the past 5 years in under 10 minutes.

Have ya given your review of the Flesh Light to him yet?  I'd be curious as to what the response would be - Hopefully not going to the subject of how Johnsonville brats are on a wheat bun.

I'm totally guilty of this.  I'm a terrible conversationalist.  I think it's because I'm self centered; I have a hard time not talking about myself ad naseum.  Admitting you have a problem is the first step, right?

(I've seriously considered listening to some self-help books on the subject but I'm too proud to showcase my faults in such a way.)

I am the thread killer.

Answer the question Owen,  it's pretty easy, which is the best Peach Cobbler or Peach Pie.  Or are you conceding that your knowledge of desserts is that limited.  I can't believe how many questions you dodge on this board

......FYI- I am so kidding, though I like cobbler over pie.

I've never thought that about you, Chica - I know I'm guilty of it too. Everything someone's done or is talking about always seems to relate to something I've done or heard about, and I tend to interject that in a lot. Most of us do it, to varying degrees. I'm talking about the people that take it to the utter extreme.
