Oh, f***.
"You are naive if you don't see a full court press right now, on the national level, picking apart a good point guard"
- Sarah Palin during announcement she will not run for re-election... and will RESIGN in the coming weeks.
Toughen up, l'il victim
I'm pretty crappy at pretending to be a sports guy, so that analogy is kinda lost on me.
Is she saying she's quitting because she got picked on?
Can't she just go away? Apparently, it's okay to sue bloggers for "defamation."

If it works, woe to those here who called Obama a "terrorist."

Here's the full text of her resignation speech.

Immitation is the best form of flatery.

Basically. A point guard (Palin) is getting pressured by the other team (national media, Democrats) and she has given up the ball for someone else to take the shot (the lieutenant gov).
A total crock.
She's "done her job for AHHH-las-KA" in 2.5 years? Are you f'in kiding me?

I'm virtually speechless...even moreso when I recall how many people, several on this very forum, wished that it had been the Palin/McCain ticket rather than the other way around.
At least we don't need to worry about her accidentally getting taken seriously again. Too bad too, 'cause I was rooting for a Palin/Bachmann ticket for entertainment's sake.

Considering Obama's quadrupled the national deficit (which was sitting at a record high when he took office), its entirely possible that he's done far more damage to our country's wellbeing than Palin would have in four years.
We were all Quitnesses.

That's right, GG. How DARE you! You've interrupted a perfectly good lathering.
I am Burger King Diamond!
Palin writes with the eloquence of a Down Syndrome baby... which is fitting, I guess.
So GG's budget numbers are correct?

Classy.
Um...wow.

C'mon, Rostie isn't exactly the most PC member of this board. I wouldn't be so shocked...

Other than "she's a Republican"... what would make her a better leader, right here, right now.
Please elaborate on what Palin brings to the leadership table before you make impossibly stupid comparisons.
If she doesn't attempt to spend us out of debt, she's miles ahead of the guy we've got running things now.

By that measure, GG, you'd be a better pres. than Obama.
That's a laugher.
Way to oversimplify the office.
Back to the topic at hand.
Please provide rationale on how Palin's move is not a selfish, politically motivated act.
I could find some honor in her announcement if she truly were to leave office to focus on her family. My guess is she'll be busier than ever preparing for 2012 in the lower 48.
That really sucks. "I'm doing this for my family" ... you leave the state office hanging after a mere 2.5 years, and you end up starting your 2012 campaign immediately?
I'm no fan of TPaw.... but if he can't beat her, hands down, on character and leadership traits, the GOP is f'd up.
That Bristol's such a diva, I tell ya.
mikko:My guess is she'll be busier than ever preparing for 2012 in the lower 48.
It's my guess that she now has no chance of getting into any part of the Capitol or White House.
Aside from Nixon coming back (after a political makeover), can anybody name somebody who quit and came back with political success?
'da f**k is dat? SH*T!'
let's not jump to assumptions people.
Politicians are never out for good two days after an announcement that doesn't include a dead body or an airport bathroom.
Personally I don't give a shite what she does, I'm not in Alaska.
Nick: Too bad too, 'cause I was rooting for a Palin/Bachmann ticket for entertainment's sake.
Oh man, that would be must see TV! WOW
Could you imagine that team in a debate?

In discussion with some friends... we agree there is a massive t-shirt / bumper sticker opportunity with the Palin/Bachmann concept.

Well, here's your problem. You're presuming her motivation is largely political, and that would be my guess as well, but there is no evidence to suggest that she's going to immediately start campaigning for 2012. The fact is, she is very charismatic and is likely to be a major player in the Republican party for some time. If she wants to be taken seriously, she has some studying to do - especially in the foreign policy arena. It would appear that she believed that maintaining her governorship and this sort of preparation were incompatible. It's not the first time an elected official left his or her post to prepare for something bigger, and it won't be the last.
Now, the rest of you can continue to poke fun at her accent, ridicule her teenage daughter(s), make jokes about her baby with Down's Syndrome, etc...
You stay classy, Minneapolis.
