Can we assume that they are playing on a S-A-T-U-R DAY NIGHT?

    Dude.

I may not want to see them... but I fucking got the Bay City Rollers Greatest Hits on 8-track for Xmas in 1978 as part of my 15 Columbia House 8-tracks for 1 cent.

I still recall the way that "Money Honey" was split between programs 1 & 2.

    Wow.  You're really old.

I don't think Seether was such a band band to pull in.  They have a modicum of popularity, don't they?

In defense of the bookers...as recently as 4-5 years ago, they only got $10-15k to book entertainment for the entire festival.  That's not shit and I highly doubt the budget has increased by much.  You really can't get high profile/caliber acts you can get when you're booking 3 stages over 4-5 days and next to no money.  Plus, it amazes me how bands I think are totally washed up can still draw a HUGE crowd.  I worked at Taste for over ten years.  Biggest crowd I ever saw there was for Boyz II Men.  Completely friggin packed. If it were ticketed, it would have sold out.

Hey, I got to air guitar to Deep fuckin' Purple for free at the Taste one year, so they get a pass!

'Cept when 55 year old Sully Erna is doing a Godsmack greatest hits nostalgia tour. Then I'll get angry and not do anything about it but whine.

Last year they had Morris Day, which would normally warrant a "KICK ASS!" reaction. However and comma there was no Jerome. WHAT?! I didn't even know that was possible. It was like Batman with an intern instead of Robin.

Bay City Rollers!!.. I loved that band when I was a teen. Plus REO Speedwagon is on there and Eddie Money.  This a quite good line up IMO.

Yeah I am old... So what. Good music is good music. I even enjoy American Idol.

$10-$15k entertainment budget for the whole festival ? C'mon that can't be true.  Alice Cooper played a few years ago and you know he must have received many thousands to play. He ain't playing for just a few thousand. Peter Frampton, etc comes to mind.

Huge crowds attend the Taste for the bands because it is free and everyone loves free. I won't pay $30-$40 to see a blast from the past band at a casino tho.

Rockinchica worked the festival for ten years, as she mentioned already. I'm pretty sure her information is accurate, she's not one to misrepresent things like that.

I saw The Bay City Rollers live at the Six Flags in St. Louis when I was 10 years old. 30 years ago this summer. The Temptations were live there the day before.

I swear my family went to Six Flags religiously every summer when I was a kid.

I'm sure to a certain extent with these fading Oldies bands the draw for playing Taste of Mn is kind of a loss leader. It gives them some press and exposure and reminds people that they still exist. Which in turn might get a few more greatest hits cd's sold and a few more asses in seats at Grand Casino next time through...

And besides, the Bay City Rollers were really a not too bad Power Pop band that got caught up in the Tiger Beat scene. They could actually pull off a fairly credible version of "Rebel Rebel" One can only hope that dude continues to sport the 70's short shorts & tube sock look, it's totally stylin'

Best version of "Saturday Night" I can remember was a band called the Pontiac Brothers in the Ratskeller in Boston sometime in the mid-80's. Totally rocked the drunken nuts off it. good times...

I'm more interested in the seeing what the Cowsills do. They're kind of the real life version of the Patridge family and made some kind of interesting sunny pop records in the late 60's.

and I will have to check out "the Zombies" I mean, it's really just half of the actual Zombies. The singer and one of the main songwriters, but man, anything they want to do from "Odyssey and Oracle" would be perfectly Ok with me. That lp is one of the best pop records of the 60's. Absolute fuckin' genius.
