I'm sure to a certain extent with these fading Oldies bands the draw for playing Taste of Mn is kind of a loss leader. It gives them some press and exposure and reminds people that they still exist. Which in turn might get a few more greatest hits cd's sold and a few more asses in seats at Grand Casino next time through...
And besides, the Bay City Rollers were really a not too bad Power Pop band that got caught up in the Tiger Beat scene. They could actually pull off a fairly credible version of "Rebel Rebel" One can only hope that dude continues to sport the 70's short shorts & tube sock look, it's totally stylin'
Best version of "Saturday Night" I can remember was a band called the Pontiac Brothers in the Ratskeller in Boston sometime in the mid-80's. Totally rocked the drunken nuts off it. good times...
I'm more interested in the seeing what the Cowsills do. They're kind of the real life version of the Patridge family and made some kind of interesting sunny pop records in the late 60's.
and I will have to check out "the Zombies" I mean, it's really just half of the actual Zombies. The singer and one of the main songwriters, but man, anything they want to do from "Odyssey and Oracle" would be perfectly Ok with me. That lp is one of the best pop records of the 60's. Absolute fuckin' genius.
