The results support and further explain a Pew Research Center survey from 2006, in which 47 percent of conservative Republicans in the U.S. described themselves as "very happy," while only 28 percent of liberal Democrats indicated such cheer.
I suspect there are other factors other than a right-wing bent towards rationalizing inequality. Perhaps its a simple matter of knowing what you have control over and what you don't, focusing on the positive, or actually doing something to help the "inequality" you experience as opposed to moping around like a victim and not taking action.

I somehow doubt there is a causative relationship between someone's level of happiness and their political bent. Rather, their happiness and their political leanings each may be a product of one's tendency to be generally more rational than emotional in their reactions or their soclial/political ideology.

Conservatives are business as usual and fear change. They prefer their meat red, their women in their kitchen and their homosexuals unwed and in the closet. They are aggressive and god fearing and rest on values that have served mankind for 100's if not 1000's of years. (I know broad generalizations but I even it up in the next paragraph)
Liberals think that progress needs to happen faster and that we should not embrace the caveman characteristics of our forefathers but evolve into what we truly are capable of becoming as a species. We need to make all animals are friends not our food, we need to let everyone that loves each other be able to get married, we should release ourselves from the dependence we place on a mythical character and instead rest the burden on our own shoulders to make the world a better place.
I think Conservatives see Liberals as a threat to what their beliefs and liberals see conservatives as an anchor keeping the human race from reaching their true potential.

You're not explaining how conservatives are wrong, you're explaining how they are bad, and maybe more accurately, harmful to the world.
Now clearly, there are excptions. There will always be conservatives who think liberals are bad people and liberals who think conservatives are simply wrong, but on the whole these things tend to be true. It becomes evident when you look at how one group portrays the other.
Granted, there is the group of politically conservative fundamentalists who think "god should kill fags" or something to that effect, and they do believe that many of their political opponents are "evil." But they're not reacting to that person's political or social perspective. They're reacting to a lifestyle which they find offensive, which also happens to be one which they believe is condemned in the bible.
But liberals tend to think that conservatives will ultimately cause the end of the world (for man, anyway), either by war or destruction of the environment. This is not an indictment of one's position of the best way to further our civilization, which is generally how conservatives attack liberals.
Anyway, Todd, I appreciate what you said. I do try to be level-headed about this stuff, and as a non-christian, I simply don't fall into the "ignorant god-believer" category you so vehemently oppose.
