G.G.:That's a strong statement right there. Plant's no slouch although he is an effiminate little petunia all flittin' around limpwristed and what not.
While I haven't heard too many live Heart shows from their peak days, I can say that Plant wasn't the most 'on' singer in regards to pitch.
Sorta 2 different styles and Wilson was a product of Plant's career. As a pure singer, Ann trumps the Tall Cool One.
If the technology (ie camera phones, youtube, internets) existed & was utilized then and captured 'off moments' of bands in the 60s/70s, they wouldn't be near as revered as they are today.
It seems like nowadays if a band (big enough to play stadiums, big clubs, etc.) has one off moment, it's on YouTube, and said band is shit on. It's all so slick nowadays, gotta be perfect. No spontaneity - 'song must be as is on recording'.
Listen to certain excerpts from some Zep shows from 1977 and holy shit...if that's what people based their opinions of Zeppelin on...people would think they were fucking garbage. 'Over The Hills and Far Away'? Great song. 15 minutes long with extended 'maybe in the right key' echoplex guitar solo good? No.
Maybe this is a whole other thread waiting to happen!
