RockinChica78:

Do you have one?  I don't know anybody who has one...the only people I know how could afford one have central vacs.  Which I really, really wish I had but I don't.

as a former sears salesman, i would advise against Dyson.  check the consumer reports and get one of the cheaper vacs at the top of hte list.

dyson has just as many repair issues as the rest of them and they are expensive to fix.  i'd pick a $150-200 sears model myself...

1st gen dysons maybe had problems but the newer ones, from what I have experienced, do not and they have a new 5 year warranty.

Get the Dyson

Dysons, like Mac, are mostly marketing.  Buy a commercial vac for less and get a better machine.

I'd guess Todzilla has a Mac too.

i can't off-hand think of a single product whose factory warranty is comprehensive or convenient...

Okay don't get a Dyson.

actually, unless you have a lot of carpeting and animal hair (great dane owner) I would go cheaper.  I love ours but I would get a less expensive model and pay down high interest debt instead.

I think Dysons work Super Fantastic but then again I'm comparing it to our older POS,

It would be hard for me chance getting something that I will end up liking less than a Dyson but that doesn' t mean that I should talk others into it.

I have about 1,400 carpeted square feet. I don't have pets but and 3 kids, so I think I need a super sucking vac.  I was reading reviews and it seems for the most part people are very happy with them.  What I really want is a commercial backpack vacuum cause I have a ton of stairs.  I've never seen one in a store so it's kind of hard to test one out.

My highest interest rate on anything is 7.9%; my house is only 5.2% so I'm not that concerned about paying things off.  I'm at that point where I'm more concerned with not incurring more debt.  I'm probably going to try to pay off the kid's braces so that I can actually deduct medical expenses this year.

I am the thread killer.

Wait...what the hell's going on?!

Everybody's running around screaming bloody murder about gas prices, war in Iraq, food shortages...RECESSION!!!!

We're debating the practicality of buying a several hundred dollar vacuum cleaner.

This recession is the easiest one I've ever heard of.  Either that or we're all spoiled rotten.

Toddzilla might be right on this - i worked at Sears ~4 years ago and my opinion is based on what the guys selling them told me.  none of them would buy a dyson but they were happy to sell them!

If I just spent $500 dollars on a vacuum I'd tell everyone I was happy with it too.

Panasonic Commercial= Best vacuum on the planet.  Half the cost of Dyson

Goots your husband must just love the work you do around the house.  I'm sure he tells all his buddies how nice you keep the house for him.

GG, I have to admit that I agree with you that the recession, so to speak, is very real to some but not to all (I don't think I'm talking rich and poor hear either). I also agree that, in general, Americans are spoiled brats. While we complain that gas prices are nearing $4/gallon Europe sits at twice that nearing and in some cases exceeding $9/ gallon. I can't speak for anyone else but what has everyone else experienced? Though I haven't heard anyone jump for joy because of the gas prices I haven't heard many complaining around my work or in my extended family. That doesn't mean they aren't, it just means I haven't heard anything. On the other hand all I hear on the news is how this is devastating our country. Though is sucks, all it's meant for our house hold is maybe eating out less though we haven't had to actually sit down and budget around our gas usage. Thoughts, observations?

It doesn't matter where the money goes.  The important aspect is that it is changing hands.

You did fine, George would be proud.
