I don't mean to start another bitch rant but come on people. I have been in the search for other musicians like myself for quite some time. I've been wanting to start a new experiment project mixing different kinds of genres together. Some that haven't been explored much, espically mixing metal with others. Think Mr. Bungle or Dog Fashion Disco, early Incubus, System of a Down kinda stuff. Funky but with a spice of crazy hyperness. Now you would think Minneapolis having the reputation it has on the music scene that you could find other ecentric hyper and melodic individuals to collaborate with. No!!!! I get people who either have the drive but no talent ( I'm not saying I'm the best but some people really need a dose of reality other than their parents or girlfriends opinion) or they have the talent but procrastionate (I'm a bit of one myself I must admit. I guess that makes me kind of a hypocriate).
If I have to see another musician rised on shitty Minnesota radio I'm saying fuck it and ill do it myself and hire someone if needed, or something. I don't know what to do anymore. If I got a nickel for every musician here that claims U2, Radiohead, The Muse, ACDC, G n R or the most common one METALLICA as a major influence to them, than I could quit trying to form an original band and go play arcade games all day at Gameworks.
Well let me welcome you to the musicscene and say "yeah its you".......There are many talented people here, but no one wants to waste thier time.
What do you play? I`m assuming drums>?
Do you have a place to play?
Do you have recordings of yourself playing?
How old are you?
How long have you been playing?
How many people in the band?
Do you have a double kick that sounds like an apache helicopter landing?
If I had a buck for every post from some kid who thinks they can write something original and play, I`d be rich.
Imagine how bad it would be if everyone who wanted to start a band could immediately find the "right" musicians. And people say the town is flooded with crap as it is!
Not ripping on you per se justanotherdrummer, just sayin'. I feel your frustration but that's just how the speaker rattles sometimes.
It's one thing to get frustrated but it's another to start placing blame else where this early in the game, sorry if I came off too much like a boner.
Its you.
You need to get out more often.
There are many bands outside of the Clear Channel playlist-influenced mold.
Toddah:Word, if I here someone say they want to start an original experimental project and reference Mike Patton I'm going to puke. Mike Patton Mike Patton Mike Patton Mike Patton, FYI- You are one in the same with that Metallica kid in my book.

OK you people need to quit picking apart every little thing I wrote. First off the Mike Patton thing was just a reference of a musician that thinks outside the box. Thats the only reason I mention him or the others. Should I use Les Claypool or Buckethead? Does that make you people happy. Yes I am a drummer your right. Good for you. I also have been writing my own music bass and guitar but no singing becuase I lack that aspect. Now I know what your thinking. It must sound like shit. Maybe it does becuase I'm not much of a bass or guitar player. Drums are my backbone. I have no place to practice but I do have options. I do record myself. I'm 24 and have been playing for over 12 years. I do play the double kick but I don't over use it like most metal drummers do nowadays.
My whole point was to bitch that not enough people here seem to want to try anything out of was popular these days. If I wanted to start an Indie band or a metal band, than here is just as good as any. If I wanted to start say a ska band or a swing band or a reggae-death metal band even, or whatever, it seems almost impossible to find enough members for.

The Manvalanche: justanotherdrummer: Should I use Les Claypool or Buckethead? Does that make you people happy. No. It does not. [/end bitchiness]
Would using references put you in the very box you are trying to stay out of?
My advice to you is to get a basic recording program and Reason and start composing. Play if for enough people and see who bites.
BE THE BALL
I think most are just too lazy to do something like this... Most of the musicians that are actively seeking projects are musicians with hopes of "making it", which would make an experimental project not at all worth their time.
Then there are those of us that would love to do something like this, but do not wish to commit themselves to a project where other people are relying on them (I myself fall into this category). They either already have a band that is their main focus, or they have moved on with life and are not looking to do anything with music that demands a lot of their time and money and thus do not want to commit.

.....and that's a lot of their problem.
Making it?
You mean making love?
A band like this....you'd better be INSANELY good or willing to play basement parties for the duration of the project. Or maybe a rare Tuesday "show" in front of six people.
Then, while you're playing those, you can tell yourself the Twin Cities "just doesn't get it" and "Man, if we were in New York..."
Sorry to sound cynical but....I've seen this happen a billion times.

Indeed.
Sorry if I know you justanotherdrummer, and it sounds like I'm being a nana...but yeah, if you're having problem finding ANYONE to jam with, you're not doing something right.
You're either not looking in the right places, or you're not networking (ya know, going out to bands you like and meeting people, drinking beers/whiskey, and/or doing drugs of your choice). It's up to you to be the best justanotherdrummer you can be.
If you bitch at me about saying this, I know where your problem lies...
Immitation is the best form of flatery.

Ah yeah, your powers of perception are on par with a fencepost. I was trying to help you, if you look closely at the questions I asked it is information that should be in your posts looking for players. Looking at how you replied I can tell you have a tude to no end.
Yeah its you because your posts leave out too much information. You never said you were a drummer i just looked at your handle.
and just for fun I was planning to take over Wisconsin with my NEW brand of POLKA METAL........I`d be a GOD....... and that was like 7 years ago.
