    1980's comback? What the F*CK!!!!!!!

What is up with these young teens nowadays. I know most of them now, were not even born during the 80's ( thank god I was only six by the time it ended). Anyway I see some of these young kids dressed just like they came out of 1985. I am at work and I'm stuck with 93X playing and all I hear is new bands sounding like their Skid Row. Now I don't know about you but the 80's culture is about as horrible as you can get. I was at the mall the other day and I saw two young teens around probably about fourteen. They both looked like Madonna from the 80's. I don't know if its the new-ish "punk look" but I hope it dies soon. Now normally I don't care what people look like or what they listen to, but if we're going back to the 80's as the new trend then please someone shoot me!!!!!

I've been waiting for this for ten years.

    Thank God!

Listenable melodies, understandable lyrics, GOOD singers.  Cookie Monster is dead.  He eats carrots and brussel sprouts now.

Yup....the 80s are "in" again. I've noticed that, too.

It was bound to happen....just like the "70s", bell-bottomy pants and all fad, that came back in the mid 90s (and thankfully faded back out).

I don't mind the metal part of it but the new age 80's pop was shit the first time around.  The new stuff is not even remotely original but somehow manages to be even worse.  And even hot girls look retarted when they don the 80's Madonna look.  Leg warmers?  Really?... Really?!!?!?!

Not to worry.  We'll all be wearing flannel, chuck taylors & cargo pants again in 2010.

Re: 1980's comback? What the F*CK!!!!!!!

Haha, the definition of "retarded" is misspelling it "retarted".  Stick out tongue

Viva la 80's! I'm going to relive some of my fondest 80's memories when I'm screaming like a bitch tonight at the BON JOVI concert! Yay!  :-D

Also, 80's pop is the best pop. So y'all can fuck right off. I was playing guitar to Flock Of Seagulls songs last night, matter of fact. Madonna happens to be my "Lucky Star" and I've never been ashamed to admit it. Her body of work in that decade was top shelf. There's quite a few other pop artists from this time that I adore as well. It sure beats the pop of the 70's. At least 80's pop had some element of danger to it at times, which is inherently rock n' roll. Plus there were lots of nods to the pop of the 50's, which helped define and shape the genre. Odes to influences are good things.

But to the original poster, for being so young, you sure sound like an old whiner. Starting the post with "What's up with these young teens nowadays" automatically means you're what my parents would call a "square." So...if you're looking for someone to shoot you cuz you can't handle a cyclical trend THAT ALWAYS OCCURS (as other posters have mentioned, like the 70's retro fads), then I'm looking for some bullets already. We don't need ya.

I gotta tell ya... I'll take any amount of 70s - 80s - OR 90s throwback fashion from the kids if it chases THE FUCKIN 00s "hipster" wave of fashion out a here!!!

I'm guilty, I rock the tight jeans, wallet chain, skull belt buckle, and a Maiden t-shirt from time to time... From what I've noticed, it's been back for 2-3 years in metal music. Singers belting vibrato, guitars chuggin' and squealin', drummers blasting away. I'm only 23, but I dig it.

Actually, I'm wearing all of those things right now. Well, actually, I'm wearing Wal-Mart knockoff Chucks... but yeah. I'm either way behind the times, or I'm a trendsetter. I can never quite tell the difference.

For the record, that Bon Jovi show sucked, other than Richie's solo bit.

Think about it:  Most kids nowadays have parents who lived in the 80's, and their parent's tastes trickled down to their kids.  Eventually, in my opinion, it was bound to happen.  What comes around goes around.

The 80's music, the Metal was way better than what happened in the late 90's early 2000's.  Seriously it was the worst of times, it also made dropped D so popular that everyone  thought they could play guitar, and they were right.

The fashion during that era was also pretty bad, big baggy Jenco Jeans, the tribal or flame buttom up shiney shirts.  Leave it to Hot Topic to spread stupid fashion trends across small town America.

Now adays, just like the 80's, if you're going to play metal, you better know how to play guitar with more than one finger.

I think we're bringing back everything we liked about the 80's and leaving what we didn't.

Yeah flannel still rocks and always will

Flannel kicks hockey jersey ass any day of the week.

Look up Nicki Rose on the youtube for the best of 80's rock.

Without a doubt, the sets we play that have the most 80's tunes are by far the ones that get the most people out on the dancefloor.  It seems like as of late, our song choices seem to be geared for the '80's as well.

I'm not surprised to hear that Hairball is selling out performances...my guess is that Rockfist! will start gaining some more momentum out of this as well.

One night I was bored and looking for a place to drink, so I stopped

in at the local bowling alley and Hairball was playing.

I got drunk. I laughed. I had a good time and they seem good at what they do.

    Bring on the 80's!

There was a LOT of great music that came out of the 80's. I love 80's thrash metal, I love 80's hair bands and stadium rock bands, I love 80's pop even... I don't know what it is, but there is something very endearing about the 80's... and I am too young to have lived the 80's, and my parents are too old to have rubbed off on me: it's just GOOD.

But don't knock the Drop D tuning: knock the fools that hide behind it with no talent. While I don't use it nearly as much as I used to, some of the greatest bands of all time had some great guitarists that were using Drop D to their advantage. Look at Soundgarden and Pantera for starters. It certainly has legitimate advantages.

Pantera, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden were in the minority.

It was more that bands that over used it, influenced some crappy local stuff that's around.

The tuning preference isn't the issue, it's how it is used. It annoys me just as much to see a player in standard tuning only rocking the bar chords. It really has nothing to do with tuning, in my opinion.

Someone should buy the New French Bakery and turn it into a Rock n Roll club!  That would be awesomes! Or totally tubular.  Whichever you prefer.
