We all have seen some subpar performances in our day (maybe even played a few, I'm guilty) and you can't blame someone for wanting to get themselves on a stage some where "performing".  In fact there are threads started once a month honoring these '"acts", or should I say dishonoring.

Poor performing bands are like bullets, completly harmless in the basement or garage under lock and key.  But if you load them up and point them at a crowd of people, it can be harmful.

Something I hope we can all agree on is that these bands, whether they do or do not exist, wouldn't have had the opportunity to hurt our ears and taint our night, had someone not made the business decision to place them in front of us to do so.  The blame really needs to go toward booking agents if you are starting to feel there are a lot of bands out there gigging that shouldn't be.

So who is doing it well? I say the Fine Line. I believe, along with great monitor mixes and expensive beer, they also tap all the great music that the cities has to offer and don't pigeon hole themselves to over booking one genre.  The last few shows I've been to there have rocked and were packed.  I put them at the top of my list of places I'm less likely to catch a crappy show on a Friday or Saturday.

I know, like I said, it was too easy.  I apologized to Toddah for the hijack, and even ignored Ron's response so that I wouldn't hijack it further.

So sorry again for hijacking this thread, especially one that's music related, which seem to be few and far between.  Let's keep all the bitching in the one about taxes, since that has already degenerated into a bitchfest!

I have a hard time answering this thread because one of my favorite bookers in town gave my bands at the time a chance, when we were nobodies. At the same time, said dudes also book some heavyweights in the Book Of Heavy Metal, so...how I can I talk shit? I'm not in a band now so it's a situation of making sure all the appropriate ass cheeks get their obligatory peck, it's just more...how can I fault a guy for doing his job? Every booker has shows I don't agree with. Lots of bookers DO have shows I agree with. Judging bookers is a bit harder here, and less black and white.

This is what moderators do:

A Forum Moderator, often shortened to just mod, is a person granted special powers to enforce the rules of an Internet forum (message board) or electronic mailing list[1]. Almost all moderators on all forums can move discussions to different sections of the forum, close discussions, edit the content of individual postings, answer questions (or help people with problems), and stick discussions so they remain visible in their forum section even if no new postings are made to them. Different forums may give their moderators further powers, such as being able to block/ban people from the message board.

It's from Wikipedia though, so I don't believe it!

I agree it might by harder, for one you don't want to burn any bridges but in all it shouldn't matter.  I think it would be say a lot abut your future band if you could burn those bridges and then they forced to book you any way because your draw is magnificant.

Which clubs are the hardest to get booked at and which are the easiest on a Friday or Saturday night.

Easiest, if you play anything close to metal, would be the Rock

Hardest would be the Fine Line or First Avenue
