Holy shit. 93X did a contest w/Queensryche where 3 fans were selected to sing karaoke versions of either Synchronicity, Welcome To The Machine, or Neon Knights. The winner gets to sing the encore with Queensryche. This is happening in most of the tour stops, and the ultimate winner gets to sing on a Queensryche record. How cool!

Rockfist!'s very own Rick Forsgren flat out annihilated the competition on his version of Black Sabbath's Neon Knights. Not bad for a guy that didn't even know the song the day before! According to Rick, Sharon Tate (Geoff Tate's wife) called him and said if he won, he'd be singing Welcome To The Machine with the band. Turns out Rick didn't know that song either (!!) so he went and learned it.

But after his karaoke performance before the actual gig, the one of QR's people said to him that he was the best singer they'd encountered while doing the contest on this tour, and that he didn't have to sing Wecome To The Machine, he could sing any of the three covers they'd selected. So he went with Neon Knights and fuckin' blew the doors off the place. Sure, he missed a lyric here and there, but the melodies were spot on and you could tell the band was diggin the guy's pipes. If anyone's heard Rick sing, they'll know what I'm talking about, he's prolly got the best male vocal range in town.

So congrats to Rick - he got to sing onstage with one of his very favorite bands, in front of a big crowd, and he seized the moment big time. What a dream come true!

Yes, the girl going crazy in the background is Rick's wife.  Smile

We're all really proud of him.  Total dream come true.

That was fucking awsome!  Love the Siccor Kick too!   Hope he remains the best contestant for the rest of the tour and gets to record with them!  Congrats Rick!

I was impressed with the video.

He sounds like Don Dokken which is a good thing.

Props. Good luck with whatever comes out of this.

Oh no...no no no. Dokken? Hell no. Dokken's crap compared to Rick vocally. I recommend seeing him at a local bar, I promise you won't think Don, unless of course he's singing It's Not Love or something.

Fair enough, man.

Just watched the vid again, and god, it's still great. Rick totally got to sing with his heroes and kicked some ass. What fun!

I was present for said event.  Conclusion: I REALLY need to see me some Rockfist.  What a set of pipes on that guy!

Watching Geoff's reaction was as fun as watching Rick having a blast.  Geoff was clearly very impressed.

BTW, that was a fabulous show.  QR really pulled out some rarity tunes for this one.  I'd never heard Bridge in concert.  Freaking awesome.

Yeah, Geoff actually did pretty good. I usually lower my expectations a bit cuz I've seen him be pretty off in concert before, but this time was pretty good. If only Rick could have done the "we are children of the light!" line in Take Hold Of The Flame for Geoff so us fans could have heard the high note that we haven't heard in years. Stick out tongue

Your dude certainly does have some pipes, but I hear more of a Ray Alder/Geoff Tate/Michael Kiske than Don Dokken.

Must've been a great experience and mind trip for him to be up there with Tate.

Nice work, Bub!

Here is the review from Fox 9...

"A highlight of the show was Queensryche’s contest to give vocalists a chance to sing on stage with them. Radio station 93X held the contest locally and brought three winners to the show. Each got to choose to sing either “Neon Nights,” “Welcome to the Machine” or “Synchronicity II” from the “Take Cover” cd Karaoke-style at the beginning of the night. The winner was judged by crowd response. Rick Forsgren won with his rendition of “Neon Nights” and got the crowd cheering for more. Forsgren, vocalist for the Minneapolis based band Rockfist! had the chance of a lifetime to sing onstage with Queensryche. He now goes on to win a chance to sing on Queensryche’s next cd."

That is incorrect. Geoff Tate's wife is "Susan" Tate.
