J_Taffe:
The Dear Hunter - Act II......  - The ONLY reason I list this is because for like 2 weeks I thought it was really stinkin cool, but then I decided I think its just as pretentious, unrock n roll, and high school drama class as all the other kids these days seem to be when it comes to their bands....I decided to shelf it and claim "old man" like I do with Coheed and Cambria.

I'd forgotten about this one. I got a copy at work... maybe I just need to listen to it some more and cultivate some cynicism, but I was caught off-guard by how good this was. Pretentious? Yeah. Stinkin' cool? Well... yeah. I think, anyway.

I know that both Toothy and Grocky are big fans of it, AMA, and that's 2 of my better friends.....and I was pretty into it for a while, but I stopped dialing it up on the 'ol mp3 player, just completely stopped.  When I thought about why, that was the conclusion I came to (what I typed).

I can't stand how compressed and "un-live" the production is either....another thing that speaks to the old man vs. new generation thing.

I hear you on that. That's my biggest complaint with like 90% of the new stuff that comes out, even the stuff I like musically. It occurs to me that the fact that I forgot about the album may speak volumes... nevertheless, I think I'm going to have to drag it out again after this convo.

Why don't you bring it to the space tonight and I'll settle this argument?

I believe she was there watching.

Not sure, I wasn't introduced. Nicholas isn't much of a gentlemen in that sense, among others.

Are you kidding? That's pretty much all Nick ever talks about. Well, that and snot-nosed suburban punks...

In the new issue of The Onion, Kwang's 'For What It's Worth' is listed in the Top 25 Local Albums of 2007 section under 'Honorable Mentions'!

Hello fame and fortune!

If only the album had an anti-war and politically concious slant to it, it would have been in the top 25. DAMN IT.

So... "Rock and Roll!  Baseball!  Big Tornadoes!" ISN'T about our policy of non-involvement in Darfur?

Consider this mind blown.

The confusing thing for me is if the whole list including the honorable mentions is satire or not.

I don't even know what I bought that came out this year.  Explosions In The Sky, maybe?  Which was okay but not mind-blowing.  I just got the  PJ Harvey Peel Sessions, which are phenomenal (Folkerts, I think you would like this as a good exposition on her early career, but with better production).  My wife spent way too much getting me Desert Sessions I & II.  Got the last Evens record, which is really good.  Got the Jeremy Enigk record from before the new one.  Hell.  Everything I bought this year was old.

However, before the year is out, I will get Jesu - Conqueror, plus the 3 EPs a whole nother compilation that they released (and they toured)!  Damn busy year for Justin Broadrick.  Silver is awesome, and the review in the Onion said Conqueror tops Silver.

[EDIT]  Oooh, I got one!  Pelican, "City Of Echoes."  Awesome shit.

Also, Justin, I know you're mostly joking, but when you look at what is on the list, it's not like it's the Dead Kennedys or RATM or some shit like that.

I think I only bought 2 records this year that were released this year.

Prong/Power of the Damager (not very good)

and

Britney Spears/Blackout (not listening to this if I can help it)

I kind of don't really like music very much anymore - everything sounds the same to me now.

I am the thread killer.
