Ok. Let's look at reality here. The reality is, merch isn't moving very well. There was a time when I could go out to a band and I would see at the very least an email list full of names. Maybe people were not buying stuff, but at least they were checking it out. I don't know when that trend died, to go check out the merch of the band that you thought was good on stage, but in all honesty it seems to be fading fast. I am looking at the alternatives to moving merch. It seems that having the CD incorporated into the door doesn't has mixed opinions, as is any idea on this message board. Some of you pretend like getting what you paid for is some big injustice, doesn't make any sense to me but ok. It seems to me if you didn't want to pay $10 you wouldn't have gone, reguardless. It means many things though. 1) You're willing to pay a higher ticket price for a local show. For that I applaud you. It's a solid statement that the trend of support for local acts is not diminishing, rather, it's the venue competition that is driving ticket prices down. This is a very promising statement to make. It means: If you're good, then you'll get what you deserve. So bravo. 2) Maybe incorporating the CD into the cover left a bad impression on you, but can you see it for it's benefits? Is there any way we can improve on the idea? 3) If you knew a band was playing, and you didn't know it was someone else's release party... Does that say something about the level of support other bands in this scene have for each other? YES. 4) Is anybody going to the merch table these days? Charles

I am a little confused by this post. I will say that. Some of it makes sense and you are correct when you reference people want to get what they pay for...including the CD in the cover charge raises the value of the show itself. I think people still vist merch tables. I know Drift Effect did very well in selling additional merch at this show. Sometimes merch sales are relative to how agressive your band is with the selling of it's merch. How good of a sales person is your merch girl? Different extenuating factors are included in that analogy.

I do think to many venues are concerned with the size of the cover charge....I believe 10 bucks for four bands is an exceptional value that is 2.50 cents a band. And if the music is of quality people will pay it...no problem. But including the CD in the cover charge helps moves CD's because it puts (In This Case) 300 new cds in people's hands. The Majority of the people will listen to the CD and will pass judgement on the music. Some may get drunk and leave it in their buddies car...still some may throw it in the trash. But MOST people will listen to the disc. Which is what a CD is designed to do...be listened too. People will form an opinion. And good or bad it is their opinion. And for most people making the show the best value you can while still making money is the easiest way to put people in the building.

Musicscene thoughtflow chart:

Is the party inquestion Cassanatra or the GOP?

Yes = begin pathetic ass kissing or fervent defense of said party

No = worthless losers who in hindsight could have done things better another way, no business even being known to a small sample of Minnesotans, any ideology of said party dismissable without further debate

:) I am gonna get in trouble for this one.

Damn Musicscene gatekeepers are gonna gang up on me and then go plan the Iran invasion while listening to Primo Impacto.  Have fun.

I'm with you....I tried to do that at post 129....but people have continued the thread. As far as I'm concerned it's a done deal. I have nothing else to prove. The show did that for me last weekend.

The thread is being continued because of the recent show. That's not piling on, or beating a dead horse. That's addressing recent events. God forbid I actually comment on something with a hint of relevance!

Yeah... I just want to make it very clear that despite the fact that both Casanatra and the GOP are institutions that Newman holds dear, they are in no way related otherwise. It's highly unlikely that you'll hear anything from the new Casanatra record being used a la Godsmack as a testosterone-laden soundtrack to military recruitment ads.

As for pathetic ass-kissing... there would be little point to kissing Casanatra's ass, as they're not exactly lined up to headline the Target Center. A lot of people on this board think they oughtta be, though.

I didn't rail on DE...all I said was I didn't dig there music very much and that Bonzo misrepresented himself for no reason...other than that, I haven't been very involved in this thread except to make fun of the use of sayings like "off the hook" or "off the chains."  Further, there are only a handful of Conservatives on this board, and I'm really the only one that has gotten involved in this thread, so I don't really see where that one came from.  I'm not even a "fan" of the GOP anyway, I'm a Conservative, not a Republican.

I don't kiss their asses...but I believe I have grabbed all of them.

While I agree that all things should return to casanastra in some shape or form; please don't hate on me and the boys because we're beautiful.
