'King Croesus' opera was low-brow hit in its heyday By Michael Anthony | Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 A lot has changed in opera houses since the first production of "The Fortunes of King Croesus" in 1711 in Hamburg's Theater-am-Gänsemarkt.
