Minneapolis indie rock band The Hold Steady are known for their rabid fanbase. One local music website, More Cowbell, put together the pleasantly obsessive Hold Steady Guide to the Twin Cities, which is exactly what it sounds like: An interactive map to (nearly) every local spot referenced in the band's lyrics. For a city of its size, Minneapolis has a notable musical history -- it's also home to, among others, Prince, Husker Du, and the Replacements. It's the kind of town where the nostalgia buffs at the Minnesota Historical Society are proud owners of Prince's Purple Rain costume.
