Nye's Polonaise Room in Minneapolis' Nordeast hasn't changed that much since it opened in 1949. During the 30s, when Poles came in search of work at the nearby grain and saw mills, the bar provided a home away from home. Almost 60 years later, there's still that comfortable feel. There's the same polka though now the player is one-generation younger; the same piano though now a bit beat up. Serving polish standbys like cabbage rolls and Kielbasa, stronger-than-Hercules cocktails and lotsa lotsa beer, Nye's Polonaise is a favorite among the old school crowd as well as Dinkytown hipsters who all boogie out on the polka floor. Even the bathrooms are authentically old-time Minneapolis, as Restroom Ratings reports.
