International Gawker Stalker: 1993, Homewrecking, Velvet Nostalgia [Celebs]

102105.10.jpgThere's a lot of bitter, snarky, nasty anti-celebrity sentiment out there, and I just wish we could all agree that famous, rich, beautiful people are just like you and I, expecting that they are those things and we are not. I see no reason to kick people on the way down; much better to wait until you're sure they're actually, really down for good. But I think we can agree that heckling from would-be wits in the bookstore must count as a sign that the end is near:

I'm in Minneapolis and was standing in line behind Jon Bon Jovi at Barnes and Noble. After he announced to the cashier who he was (like we couldn't tell by the nasty highlights etc) she said, "How 1993." Thank you bitter B&N workers!
1993? Try 1986, beeyotch. Don't pick on the elder statesmen of hair metal. Next they'll be dissing Warrant, or Whitesnake, or White Lion. Let's leave the heartland for the west coast, where they respect their national treasures:
I saw Thandie Newton yesterday at Whole Foods in San Francisco. Recognized her instantly. She was with her husband and two adorable kids. She was WELL beyond skinny, but had a gorgeous face -- perfect skin. She seemed down to earth, chatted with another mom on the way out, her husband even more so -- he was checkin me out though, I have to say.
What did I say about respect? Poor Thandie is doing just fine, and now she's fat and jilted. Fine. Off to Europe, then:
I was at the recently opened Dada show at the Centre Pompidou museum in Paris. It was extremely crowded and as I was browsing the bookstore, I realized I was standing next to Isabella Rossellini. She was with two male companions. I think she's around 60 now. She did not look bad for her age. Brought back memories of Blue Velvet.
She's only 53 for Christ's sake. No wonder there are so few good movie roles for mature women. At least she's not lacking for museumgoing companionship. Send your own attempts to feel better about yourself by mocking others to tips@gridskipper.com.
