A Crystal Castles live show is a writhing, rhapsodic thing to experience. This video for "Vanished", from the Toronto duo's self-titled debut album, is something else. Directed by Pinkie of TV Carnage, the clip looks like an eerily psychedelicized "Kids Incorporated" (where's Fergie?) or else a dimly-lit Eastern European equivalent. The children's synchronized dance performance, it turns out, is taking place at a bar. A male vocal somewhere between Cut Copy and Underworld bounds across Crystal Castles' usual analog basement-house bleeps; the song almost sounds like a remix of something from Aussies Van She. It all makes for a strange and strangely fitting visual accompaniment to just one of many good tracks from an album that, depending on the day, can seem both under- and overrated.
