Dean & Britta Score Warhol Screen Tests, Help Obama

Andy Warhol
's famed screen tests found the pop art icon settling his lens on a subject for several minutes, the camera staring at them while they stared right back. A baker's dozen such transfixing shots of the likes of Lou Reed, Nico, Dennis Hopper, and Edie Sedgwick have been put to all-new music by Dean & Britta and will be released on DVD by Plexifilm this winter as 13 Most Beautiful... Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests.

There's two different versions of the set with two different release dates: an edition of 1,300 due to ship by January 17, and a standard, non-limited run out February 17. The limited set comes in a gatefold-style package with a poster and booklet, and is coupled with a hand-printed photo of a single frame from one of the 13 films. Both editions come with a documentary about the production of the set, and an interview with Dean & Britta.

Dean & Britta will take their Screen Tests scoring project one step further by providing live music for a number of screenings of the Warhol films scattered across the coming months. They also have a run of regular dates with Mercury Rev in between.

In other news, fans will be thrilled to know that Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips' 2003 set L'Avventura, which went out of print for a spell, is now available once again. The new edition includes three bonus tracks culled from the pair's 2003 EP Sonic Souvenirs. What's more, both Wareham and Phillips contributed to "I Found It Not So", the forthcoming single from NYC act Cheval Sombre, which is due November 17 from Static Caravan and features production by Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom. Wareham plans to release a Cheval Sombre full-length via his own label early next year.

Finally, Britta Phillips will embark this weekend on a mission to Get Out the Vote (GOTV) for Barack Obama in Pennsylvania, and she wants you to join her. No really! "It will be fun and exciting, I promise," she writes in a blog post on the Dean & Britta website. Head there to find out how you can help.
