Premiere: The Juan MacLean: "The Simple Life (Marcus Worgull Remix)" [Stream]

More happiness from DFA's house. The Juan MacLean returned earlier this year with the epic disco of "Happy House", and this B-side to the former Six Finger Satellite member's latest 12", "The Simple Life", keeps expectations high for second album The Future Will Come, set to come in the futuristic year of 2009-- four years after Less Than Human. German DJ/producer Marcus Worgull, who runs Cologne's Groove Attack Records, keeps the deep, pulsating house just human enough on his "The Simple Life" remix.

It's another vast, Manuel Göttsching-minded space-out, where most of the action is in the way the layers of minimalist synth repetitions unfold into one another rather than in the content of the the repetitions themselves. Only after three minutes of hypnotic build-up does a hummable, wistful melody emerge, followed by chant-like vocals from LCD Soundsystem member Nancy Whang (who co-wrote this track and "Happy House" with MacLean). "The great unknown is the only place I wanted to see/ Oblivion is the only place I wanted to be," a male voice finally adds. In space, no one can see you dance around your laptop like an idiot.

[from "The Simple Life" 12" and digital single; due 09/15/08 in the UK and 09/16/08 in the U.S. on DFA]
